Saluting 1911's Australasia Antarctic Expedition
Jonathan Chester has been a professional photographer for 30 years shooting on all seven continents. His specialties are working on expeditions and wild and remote places, but he is equally comfortable in urban settings covering nature landscapes and environmental stories.
Over the winter of 2011 into 2012, Jonathan traveled to Australia and then onto Antartica. Jonathan braved the elements to capture extreme images. This 31-day adventure explores the rarely-visited Antarctic east coast, directly south of Australia. One hundred years ago this remote wilderness was first charted by Australia’s revered polar explorer, Sir Douglas Mawson, on the ill-fated 1911-14 Australasia Antarctic Expedition. In 2011 we celebrate both Mawson’s bravery and the final Antarctic journey of distinguished Russian icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov. Be part of this historic event by sharing in the images Jonathan takes on his adventure.
